That is an amazing shot, Chey! Thanks for pointing it out! :-)
Regarding your earlier post, I'm doing well, thanks! Sorry so slow to respond! I just keep busy, and don't always have time to drop by here! :-)

Good morning....
Long time, no see Alpine: how are things going with you?
I'm posting from Texas (hubby here working and I'm here visiting his family) this week.... no northern lights here and unfortunately, I've never had the opportunity to see them either...
But, like you, I, too, have seen the Southern Cross, from two regions: one from Hawaii where it was visible on the horizon during winter months, then from the Aussie outback when hubby and I went down for a 2nd honeymoon and were fortunate enough to take the Indian-Pacific train across. I loved it!
Checking back on the APOD's I've missed in the past few days, the one onboard the ISS of the Canadian astronaut "wringing out a wet towel" was absolutely fascinating! Not at all what I expected!
Have a wonderful weekend!

It's nice to know that living in a cold and hostile environment has some redeeming qualities! ;-)
One day, one day...
For what it's worth, I HAVE seen the Southern Cross, though, and that's more than most North Americans. :-)

Good photo.
I think most Canadians have seen the Norther Lights at one time or another. The light show over the prairie provinces and in the North of Canada are far more spectacular than those I've seen on the Coast.
Winter is of course the best time to see them, but a trip to Alberta or Saskatchewan during the cold season should satisfy anyone's curiosity providing the weather is clear and cold.
On the other hand, I've seen them in the midst of summer off the northern end of the Queen Charlotte Islands while commercial fishing there.
So come on up, there's an igloo reserved for you. :)

Indeed! I would like to see the Northern Lights in person some day. So far, I've never caught a glimpse, because mostly I've just lived too far south.
Have any of you seen them? :-)

Alas, Chey, here in town I'm lucky to see even the brightest stars. I did make out Orion and Canis Major tonight, and Jupiter, but comets? They are generally so much dimmer there's not much of a chance unless I head out into the country, where I lived back when I started this thread.
I have seen a good comet before, though. There was a great one about 10 or 15 years ago that seemed like it covered half the sky. It was the first I'd ever seen. I'm thinking from this list that it was probably either Hyakutake or Hale-Bopp.
But, yes, we can sure hope that one of these two new guys might brighten up and give us a good show!

I agree, Alpine! I can't wait to see at least one of those two in our skies!
Are you able to see either one where you are yet?

Today's Apollo 11 landing site pic was especially interesting to me, as I was just using Google Earth (in Moon mode) to look at that very area the other day. If you haven't tried it, you should! :-)
