xyv1027, yeah, i've always been told by owners of stations they'd rather you come in and by a drink instead of buying 10.00 worth of gas.

Wxdude, I think your right in that owners of these stations must be making only pennies on a gallon. However as was noted in the Gainesville, VA price war a week or two ago, with the large amount of traffic coming into these cheap gas stations, the stations are making profits from food and sales on goods other than gasoline. In fact, they are reaping in profits on food, cigarettes, etc.

i'm not sure about the rest of the state, but i believe we can offically call what's happening in Harrisonburg a "gas war"! 1.79-1.81 when rest of state is in the 195-2.15 range, owners have to be making only pennies on the gallon.

this is getting better everyday! 1.89 in harrisonburg, 1.99 in clifton forge and staunton, and 2.03 in covington. this is where we should have been all summer if it weren't for the speculators running up the price of crude.

We've got you all beat in Harrisonburg! As of today (9/21/06) it is $1.99/gallon, and yesterday it was $2.13/gallon. I can't believe it dropped 14 cents overnight!

Happy to report seeing $2.17/gal in North Stafford (on Rte 610 - Garrisonville Rd) at East Coast! I only hope the Gas War continues unabated to pre-Iraq/Afghanistan war prices! God Bless the USA and the troops over there & may they return safely to also enjoy below $2.00/gal prices once again!!!

I think this slight creep upwards in only temporary. With the switch to the cheaper winter blinds and the continued decrease in demand, I think we'll continue to have a downward trend for the next several months.
I saw something on the news over the weekend (Fox 5 in Washington DC) that noted analysts were predicting gas as low as $1.15/gallon in some parts of the country by January/February. Now wouldn't that be awesome! I'm not that optimistic though; seeing average prices continuing to fall and then holding at about $2.00 or a little less would satisfy me.

I've also noticed the Gainesville numbers creep up a few cents ...
Friday the 15th ... fill up at Sheetz/Haymarket at 2.05; return yesterday evening to the same price and three deep in line so I continued home and came back during the fourth quarter of that debacle called a football game where the Exxon in Gainesville was 1.99. Today, the Exxon is up to 2.07 so I'm glad I made the trip.
It's still over 40 cents cheaper than the two stations close to me, currently at 2.49

It has gone back up a little. $2.03 at Wawa and 7-11. It may go back down, depending on the oil markets. Under $2 was way below market value (and was also causing traffic problems on Lee Hwy.).
Several stations in Virginia Beach are at $1.99.

I think it's gonna go back up, but just a little. Gas futures did rise a few cents at the end of last week... and I think the sub-$2 was a little premature for the state. We're close, but not quite ready to stay there yet.

The Gainesville price war made headlines on WTOP. I made a special trip there to fill up, just so I can say that I paid under $2/gal. for the first time since last winter. (Yeah, I know I'm crazy) And I'll go there again next weekend if they're sill under $2 and noplace else is.

Hey KK; thanks for the info, i stopped in at wawa about 10:00pm last night and filled up at 1.97-sweet! i see that it went up to 1.99 today, probably to match 7-11 across street? lots and lots of traffic at that light when i was there, can you blame them?

$2.03 now. We might join the ranks of Ohio and Missouri as the few states with $1.99 gas soon.

Down to $2.07 in Gainesville. Definitely a war going on there. Worth the extra drive for D.C. area commuters.

The price disparity across Northern Virginia right now is huge. Yesterday evening, there was a post of $2.95 for a station in Arlington, VA. (It looks like the station came down overnight and is now $2.85.)
Then about 35-40 miles away in Gainesville, VA, Wawa has gas going for $2.15.

Let's not ignore Gainesville in Prince William County. The three that I have seen along US-29 are Raceway, Wawa and Exxon; on Sunday, they were in the 2.17 to 2.19 range.
Living 10 miles east, the lowest price in my area was 2.59 so I went out and visited Exxon Sunday evening. Oddly enough, there is a BP across the street from this Exxon that is almost 20 cents higher.

That's been a historically low priced area. Not quite sure why either. I would assume Roanoke is a major oil terminal, similar to Richmond. Lucky for y'all you don't have to deal with the EPA and Ethanol requirements Richmond does, which makes your gas about as cheap as it can get. The Yorktown area of VA is usually pretty low as well, as I think Citgo has a refinery in that area.

Who would believe that the lowest prices in Virginia are from Roanoke to Martinsville at either end of the Virginia 220 route.

Still coming down here, the lowest I have seen at the "for everybody" stations is $2.42. Prices are still being changed in Morning, at noon and everning. Local station posted $2.48 this morning feeling good, at noon adjusted to $2.45 because the station across the road put up that price, and then this evening put up $2.42 because the station down the road cut to that price, causing three others to go that way. If it isn't a GAS WAR it looks and feels like one. The local "buy a card" and "members only" prices may be lower, I am not a member to get in on those deals.
