it has long ago picked up and exceeded the number of rigs operating before 20 April. Not sure where the NY Times gets its news.

I think the EPA and other government agencies will delay permits enough to stop further drilling in the Gulf.

Watch the spills masters carefully: BP, Exxon and Shell. Drill for oil with the workers safety in mind and care for the earths environment. Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle is, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using other forms of less expensive transportation to lower your cost, if possible. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! 12/22/2012!

More production, done safely, is a good short-term development. We definitely need alternative sources in the longer term. Complete reliance on oil has got to end soon.

Obama and his Energy Secretary Dr. Chu have both said they want gasoline prices at “European levels” ($8-10 per gallon) to “encourage” conservation and to make higher priced "alternative" forms of energy more competitive. Until he is voted out of office or until he changes his energy policy, prices will continue to stay high. The national average price of gasoline when Obama took office was $1.79. Today it is $3.71.
Fortunately Energy Secretary Chu's testimony to Congress is on videotape. Two weeks ago and in 2009, Chu said to Congress that the goal is not to lower gasoline prices because higher gas prices encourage conservation, which is the goal. After Obama's press secretary was asked about and surprised about those statements, Chu told Congress last week that they do not want to raise gas prices.
This being an election year has forced Dr. Chu to lie under oath last week to Congress after he made the opposite statement to Congress on Tuesday the week before.
Obama said that increased drilling will not lower fuel prices, but yet his regime has asked the Saudis to increase oil production in order to lower fuel prices. It seems that Obama says one thing to the American people, but says something else when he thinks no one is watching.

After what happened with BP in the Gulf, Mexican and Cuban inspectors are probably no worse than the American ones because they did not do their job. The oceans are the wrong place for anyone to be drilling so Florida get prepared because like the hurricanes that come which you can't stop, so will the oil spills. if the sea life is killed off than people will be the next in line to disappear from the earth.

Lets just drill where the oil is and quit giving it away! Also stand up to iran and show them they are nothing and we are nothing to mess with.

let's hope this drilling will bring the prices back down to an easier prices to swallow...I honestly think they raise the prices all of a sudden and then when it drops even a little we're all grateful and stop complaining so much...I'm pretty sure we won't see those 100.00 a litre prices ever again...and we complained about them too

Wow! And you hard nosed Republicans keep blasting the President as being against drilling! Shame on you! It doesn't matter how many acres or drilling blocks are leased and how many more that are drilling wells, you don't know what is going on.

Hello, when are we going to wake up and use other energy sources over oil??? The oil industry and politicians are in bed together and will do ANYTHING to accelerate oil drilling in the Gulf. To hell with safety, just drill and if we spill again like 2 years ago---well thats life and get over it would be the response.
What we need is better public transportation, cars that drive from solar chips imbedded in the cars painted surface, natural gas powered cars, etc.
